Walking within the high1Both rise above sea level, and walled. City of Wilmskirk
Berra was hailed by the voices of Tribesfolk
Calling her traitor to Colymar Leika
Calling her coward for not drawing weapons
Berra said hold for she knew she was deadly
I have no argument with men of honour
I will not fight while the hot blood is in you
Dawn let us meet and this matter be settled
Colymar pride was enflamed by her coolness
Swift struck a spear towards Berra in anger
Drew she her sword and made blood flow along it
Biting the throat of her Colymar cousin
Sorrowful left she the scene of the killing
Leaving her helmet as ransom for naming
Walked to the house of Varena the Vingan2Within Wilmskirk, probably the Temple of Orlanth.
Told of the danger from Colymar anger
Proud in the Temple was red Thegn Varena
Speaking to Falnin the Storm-Voice of Orlanth
Putting the argument Berra attested
Showing the helmet for mute recitation
Falnin gave judgement before those assembled
Berra was wounded and acted correctly
Giving no harm until harm was done to her
There was no murder or death-price upon her
What Really Happened
Berra had accompanied the others to Wilmskirk, and after tracking down Venlar, they were all invited to guest as his father’s house. However, it was very crowded and she had just been slighted by the God-talker of the Humakti Shrine there. She set off to sleep at the Shrine as was her right, but never got there, as she ran into a group of Colymar who recognised and called her and Varanis some very bad things. She let one of them attack her, and then killed him, and walked back to the Cinder Fox house to be healed and see that everyone knew there was danger there.
Dormal, Mellia and Varanis went with her to the Temple of Orlanth, where Berra was able to tell Varanis what the precedent was, and Varanis gave an able speech. The Humakti God-talker confirmed to the Storm Voice that Varanis was telling the truth, and that the other Colymar were not, and Storm Voice Falnin ruled heavily in favour of Berra.
There was a short discussion on how to safely get out of the house the next day, with Berra not wanting to hide or use deception, and their host having to over-rule her wish to protect him.
Session Quotes
“Why weren’t you wearing your helmet?” – Varanis
“I was wearing my helmet! I left it there so nobody could say I put the gash into the bronze later. But I got the feather!” – Berra
“Can I inspire myself with Truth?” – Varanis
“Do you believe Berra?” – GM
“Yes!” – Varanis
“But it might be an organised thing by tomorrow. If there is a large enough force to give us trouble, then they may not stop to ask questions like ‘who’. We don’t know enough, and if someone gets attacked because we’re pretending to be them, then it’s on us.” – Berra
“Of course it’s not on you. You’re my guests.” – Jengharl
“Berra blinks, and then bows deeply and says, ‘I apologise.'” – GM
“The helmet saved her. 1HP left on the head – and then a strike rank 12 aimed shot to the neck.” – GM/Berra
