In Boldhome, Venlar sought out Finarvi and sent him off to look for Irillo, in Prax. Partly to make sure that Irillo got information about what had happened in Boldhome and partly to get Finarvi out of the way. Finarvi asked what to say if Varanis wanted to come back. Venlar advised him to advise her to send word first.

At Moonbroth, on the final day of Sacred Time, Berra and Lord Raven released the border. So began Sea Season, 1630.

Irillo had been having bad luck for days. He stated that he’d prefer to avoid going to places where he’d bring bad luck. The party had some debate about going north or south, as going through Sartar was still not possible. Varanis wanted to connect with the Telmori on the borders of Sartar. While they were discussing options, a bison rider called Firruk came to ask Maalira to speak to an oracle on behalf of the clan to find out where the best fodder would be. It meant staying for an extra few days, which the party agreed to.

To end the debate, Varanis agreed to ask the oracle which way to go. On Freezeday eve, they joined the queue to consult the oracle. Irillo bribed his way towards the front. Maalira was just automatically placed at the front. Berra organised the local youth in competitions of martial skill. She’d taken over as security.

During the evening, the mist rose up from the lake. Maalira went to check it out and realised that something had changed about the geography… it was a bit further out than it ought to be. She warned Berra, who had followed her.

Irillo and Varanis decided to follow and caught up to find Berra talking about killing anything undead. After failing to convince her not to, Berra and Varanis pushed into the boat house first. The oracle was waiting.

The Oracle said to Berra: “Why do you hold your loyalties back?”

Varanis told the Oracle, “I need to know where to go next.”

Oracle: “No you don’t.”

Varanis… “Ok, we go north!”

Everyone got an answer from the Oracle, whether they asked a question or not.

Finarvi made his way to Moonbroth. He got taxed by some of the nomads. He noticed that there were a lot of bisons around, some of which were Argrath’s. The hillfort seemed to be loyal to Argrath too; it was flying the royal banner of Sartar. And apparently they weren’t talking.

Finarvi caught up with the others somewhere north of Moonbroth and southeast of Jaldon’s Rest. They exchanged news.1Argrath is king, etc. Varanis decided that maybe she could send Argrath a letter instead of attempting a HeroQuest to try to reach Sartar. Raven took dictation.2He did a bit of editing. See Expectation of exile.

“King Argrath, respectful greetings from your cousin. Thank you for returning our Grandfather to Sartar. I will be travelling outside of the kingdom until Berra’s exile has lapsed. I wish to remind you that our family line has an obligation to the Telmori. They serve Sartar and Sartar serves them.”

Irillo took the message. The rest camped out to wait for a response,3Wild Oracles and Other Creatures where Berra made friends with a dryad. After 3 days, they spotted a dust cloud riding their way. Finarvi cast Farsee and discovered that it was a brown bison with a rider. They decided to eat while they waited for the rider to arrive. It was over an hour of waiting before the teenager rode up. Maalira recognised him from her clan – Garesh.

Garesh had a message from Erhehta. “Wtf happened in Sartar?” It was something weird. Finarvi explained. Garesh asked about where they’ll be in case he has further messages but they don’t have an answer.

Varanis and the tree got very friendly for a day, after which Irillo returned with word that Berra’s exile was lifted and they could return. Plus, Argrath thought that Berra had done the right thing by Gunda.
