While Xenofox, X11, and Kolyey head towards Boldhome, the rest of the party has decided to spend Sacred Time at Moonbroth.1Berra’s exile is still in effect afterall. Moonbroth is a backwater. There’s a ruined Lunar structure being used to house animals.

As they near the settlement, they noticed that they were being followed by a wolf. Berra attempted to case a spell on the creature and it objected. After another attempt, she managed to partially dispell the wolf’s shape, revealing it to be a Telmori, who accused her of being dishonourable. Varanis talked to the Telmori and in the end, he agreed to ride with them to Moonbroth.

As they approached the oasis, a group of Bison Riders appeared, ready to shake the party down until they realized that Maalira was with them. The riders addressed Maalira as the leader. She attempted to defer to Varanis, who grinned and happily handed leadership over to the White Lady. Maalira accepted the Bison Riders’ hospitality. They crossed the green sward rather than using the road.

While the camp was being set up, introductions were made. When Hrolfgar confirmed that Varanis had communicated with Sartar and was recognized by the Flame, he prostrated himself in the shape of the Truth Rune. After she gave up trying to get him to rise, Varanis sat on the floor to talk with him. He offered to serve as her bodyguard when she met Argrath. Varanis winced at the politics.

Outside the yurt, Varanis told people about Maalira’s new songs. They received a proper welcome. Varanis was introduced as Vareena, the Red Wind. The Bison Riders had heard of both her and the Deathchild, and they assumed that Hrolfgar was a shaman. Apparently, they expected the party to take part in the Sacred Time rites. Varanis objected, explaining that she had obligations of her own during Sacred Time.

Hrolfgar drunkenly shared some of the secrets of Telmor.

Maalira spoke with Gillar, who demanded that Varanis explain why she could not participate. Varanis did so, and Gillar understood. She decided that the omens indicated that Orlanth had to bring back the sun for Waha anyway.

Hrolfgar then departed for Telmori lands, burdened by a tremendous hangover and vomiting up the sun as an omen.

Varanis introduced herself to Be’arral, the local senior Orlanthi, who was grouchy about having been supplanted.2It probably did not help that he had a Lunar name.

At the market, the party spotted Irillo, who was very pleased to see them. A political conversation followed.

Irillo brought them up to date on events in Sartar. He made informed guesses regarding matters in Tarsh and the Empire. He also informed Varanis that Grandmother missed her. This revelation was met with derision.

Sacred Time

The first three days of Sacred Time were occupied with preparations, sacrifices, and associated rituals.

Varanis’ effigy was shaped like Onjur. In the ritual, Orlanth was cut off from the world by Humakt. Varanis was confronted by a figure representing all of her mistakes. She attempted to kill it.

Irillo set out upon a path, but the path came to an end. So he made a new one. Walking alongside, or perhaps behind him, was another version of himself. They shared an odd conversation before falling into some kind of argument.

Maalira found herself once more in the place where she had spent twenty years. Unhappy to be there, she stamped her foot, causing harm to the earth. Irillo’s Harmony convinced her to climb a wall that subsequently screamed.

Varanis awoke after being defeated by the thing she had summoned. She realized she was missing two limbs. In response, she insisted that she should possess multiple limbs like Vinga, and somehow she did.

Irillo’s Harmony attempted to convince him to remain still. He argued with Harmony, who accused him of bringing Disorder. Irillo was incomplete, and wherever he went there was a cycle of destruction. They discussed the matter further, and Irillo ultimately decided to create a Market. His Harmony seemed to remain outside.

The wall complained to Maalira that she had hurt it, while Harmony continued to nag her about climbing out. Her magic appeared to drive Harmony away. The wall transformed itself into a staircase and allowed her to climb free from the pit.

Emerging at last, Maalira found Varanis lying on the ground, missing two limbs and bleeding badly. The healer put her back together again.

Irillo’s Harmony remained outside the Market and refused to negotiate in good faith. Eventually, it was driven away.

Varanis and Maalira arrived at the Market. Upon entering, they were struck by a disruption emanating from the disorderly marketplace.

When Varanis threw her spear, it became lodged in the eye in the sky. Varanis then dreamed of a sharp-toothed figure in a library, screaming.3Consequences:

Ill omens for Moonbroth
Maalira’s sister gets married
Irillo’s cousin gets married
Varanis: Some form of blessing- Blessed by a magical entity. If aiming up, for next year, range will not matter.
Irillo gets a side effect of disorder as well/instead of harmonious when uses harmony for 1 year
