It’s the end of Godday of Fertility Week, the gates are closing, and surely nothing could go wrong as we lurch into Stasis Week? Dwsacfzxlllllllllllllllllllllllllllll1Cat

Varanis is in the market, doing some some shopping for Sacred Time, while waiting for Berra to return. yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy68ujsd2Also cat

Instead of Berra, she is stopped by a young man who passes her a letter.

Thane Varaena, from Wyter Priest Berra, at the arrow’s end. I am in the Big Rubble, probably overnight, to make sure someone does not die. I should be able to sort it out by tomorrow. If I die, I’ve left my sword at the Humakti Temple. He’ll tell you what happened. It’s really not a big thing, but it would be if I left it. Can you please make sure Kolyey doesn’t shoot anything half-drawn again, and maybe get her out of town to the Graveyard or see if Ekx needs help, and take her? Or you can tell her I’ve assigned her to looking after someone, but she might not believe that so I’ll write to her too. Berra.

At Geo’s, Xenofos and X1138 are in the private room they’d been given. Kolyey, in the meantime, was sent to inspect Varanis’ room and to stay for at least a half hour3To think about what she had done?. She received a message there.

Kolyey, from commander Berra, advance scout and Wyter Priest. Lord Raven’s writing this for me. If Varanis gives you orders, they’re from me, until I return, or you know I’m dead. You can probably find out how to give your spirit a funeral while I’m away. Berra.

Xenofos read out both letters. There was some discussion as to whether or not to go after Berra, but Varanis decided they should visit the cemetery and try to take care of Kolyey’s mission. Once the gate opened again, as the gate had closed for the night.  This would also let Kolyey get herself some more armour and a sword, replacing what had been destroyed in Prax.

The Librarian at the Library in Prax asked Xenofos to take the cursed book and return it to Ogre Island5Later conversation revealed that everyone but the GM thought this was what had been said.  Xenofos was reluctant to acquiesce.

X11 mentioned that he had a need to visit the Rubble to look for the Flintnail Clan meeting hall.

Kolyey was sleeping across Varanis’ door, while Varanis slipped through her window to hang out on the roof for a while. An Issarian came by with a letter for the Thane, so Kolyey entered her room to look for her. There was no sign of Varanis, who, up on the roof, Fumbled Listen. Varanis heard cheering from the dastardly Sun Town.

Varanis was going to roam the town to investigate but she remembered she was not armoured. Rappelling into her room she knocked Kolyey down and dislocated her arm. The Issarian letter carrier was shocked.

Xenofos, hearing the disturbance, came in wearing a loin cloth and sword belt.

Xenofos, DO NOT READ THIS ALOUD IN PUBLIC!

My dear Varanis,

I hope this letter finds you.

Back on Orlanth’s holy day, the earth shook. This was followed by tremendous rain. I was told that Harrek the Berserk and his pirates had marched on Boldhome, so I feared the worst.

I later learned that the earth shook where Kallyr was fighting Harrek. There is neither king nor prince in Sartar.

Silor told me not to wish for you to turn up at the head of an army of Sartar’s allies, so I won’t ask you to do that. I wish someone would, though. I don’t know what you should do at this point. You are the closest thing to an heir Kallyr had.

I’m not writing to Grandmother. I don’t want to see Fazzur and Mirava show up, even if they don’t bring the Crimson Bat.

Please do Silor a favor and ask Berra if Lord Eril is still alive.

The pirates did not attack Wilmskirk, so all here are safe and sound. I am thankful for that. I am thinking of taking the children to safety, but I don’t know what place to try to reach.

Be well and be careful!

Love,

Mellia

Xenofos read out some bits, memorized the letter, then burnt it at Varanis’ direction. Everyone armoured up to go investigate whatever was going on in Sun Town.  Xenofos attempted to work out whether X11 could ‘see’ in the dark, and X11 failed to really understand what seeing had to do with it. They made an attempt to track down the source of the sound, failed, and went back to bed.

The next morning, they went to the cemetery, only for Kolyey to be told by Dorasar’s ghost that the shaman only works in the dark now. Xenofos and X11 had a philosophical debate about the nature of an hour. Kolyey and Varanis set up the camp and then Varanis suggested that Kolyey and Xenofos should go to the library and be back before the gates close.

X11 was asked to guard camp while Varanis went to talk to Dorasar and look for any other relatives. Dorasar didn’t talk about anything useful. The current king of Pavis has no forebears in the cemetery. Probably descended from the Cat-witch, but we don’t talk about that.

Xenofos had little luck at the library and they returned to the cemetery. It was now Waterday. Dorasar sat by his mound and other ghosts started to appear. They were weirdly content and going about their ghostly business. Dorasar was holding court when Kolyey approached and asked if he would be a lawspeaker for her. He looked briefly perplexed, but then summoned Ajaan.

Ajaan agreed, but wanted a proper funeral where the dead were exposed to the air. But Dorasar seems somewhat obnoxiously confused. Ajaan explained how Kolyey should make a dummy body and let the whirlwish occupy it. Ajaan also had some expansionist ideas he tried to give Dorasar.

Berra returned and postponed ‘messing someone up’ for now, but did not promise not to do it.

Clay and water was fetched. Fetching clay was really messy. Broken long bones could be found. Dwarf did suggest using them would be a bad idea.
