Dearest Mother,

I doubt I can tell you more about the situation in Sartar than you already know. I’m sure Cousin Dormal has written to Grandmother by now. I lack his skill in politics, so I won’t attempt to analyze things.

On my adventures, I met a man. His name is Venlar Silorson, Orlanthi of the Cinderfox Clan, Sambari Tribe of Sartar. Venlar is sweet, charming and very scholarly. It is a pity that he is his father’s heir if anything happens to his older brother. If that were not so, he could have followed his true calling. I confess that Venlar has touched my heart in a way no one else ever has.

His father, Silor Cracks-Rock, is Chief of the Cinderfox Clan. They are fairly wealthy, as these things go in Sartar. Silor will be in Nochet on pilgrimage fairly soon. I beseech you, grant him the hospitality of the House. I feel certain you will have much to talk about.
