????, Earth Season, Stasis Week

Context

Earth Season, Stasis Week, Godday Eve. After [[[varanis:1628-0852-witness|Bearing Witness]]] to an oath of Varanis. [[[s02:session-12|Session 12]]]

Dear Varanis, this contains spoilers, but only of the sort you think it might contain

Events

A little away from the door, Berra says, “You have my retainer. I don’t think I should leave her alone for too long, though. She was already close and then she had to wait.”

“I don’t think you should leave her alone for long either,” says Mellia. “Marta is frantic that Varanis will overdose on stimulants. I am planning to ask her how much she has taken, then go to House Hulta.”

“I’m not sure it’s a good idea to ask her, even. Or maybe it’s a very good idea. But be sure not to make it sound like an accusation. I’ll try to keep her busy, although I’m running out of things to think of. But she can’t get out right now or she’ll batter herself against the outside. But the faster the message gets to Hulta, the faster we know about it.” Berra looks back at the door to the chapel, and her lip twists in what could be dismay, disdain, pondering, or just the way she is. “Maybe we could take her to the townhouse to check on it, but she’s likely to run away with herself. I’ve never seen her like this.”

“Neither have I. Maybe the thing to do is just go to House Hulta right now. You can go with me, or stay with Varanis.”

“Lord Kesten is probably not going to want me there, in particular. And I should stay with her. It’ll be better without me, I think.”

Mellia nods. “I’ll just take six of the guards. House Hulta should behave itself.”

“It would never do anything but, for you.” Berra bows formally. “Thank you for your order. I shall attempt to honour both detail and grand command.”

“You are most welcome,” Mellia says with a formal nod. She sighs. “Off I go, then.”

Berra adds, “If you cannot get in at the front gate, Lord Rillo may be a line of atta… a person you could persuade. They might not be guarding him, and you are a White Lady and should be able to get to speak with him. He’s closely related to Lenta, so…” She trails off, shrugging one shoulder. “May your goddess watch over you.”

Mellia nods. “May She watch over us all, especially Varanis.”

Berra looks back at the chapel door, expression falling then settling into determination. “And Humakt will as well.” She goes to stand there, waiting, after giving Mellia a tiny shadow of a smile.

Mellia leaves, presumably to collect six guards and call on the Hultas.
