Events
The party decided to exercise the mounts in the direction of the Humakti temple (not nearly far enough). As they neared the gate, a group of Impalas bounced past them and into the temple, causing one of the guards to chase after. The other guard was not hugely helpful, so they headed towards the Zola Fel to ride along it.
Varanis allowed Zephyr to have a drink, but the zebra ended up stuck in the mud. Varanis dismounted and began to sink, while the damned zebra got himself free. Xenofos and Maalira managed to cobble together a rope and eventually got her out of the mud. A newtling helped. Other newtlings did not.
Varanis squelched her way to the Ulerian temple for a scrub down, after making arrangements with Xenofos to swap him cleaning Zephyr with her grooming his bison for the next three days.
Kolyey took the Impalas to the market. They took food that they hadn’t paid for and sang in apology. Kolyey and the Impalas rode right through the gate and spent a bit of time exchanging thank yous and such. Once the Impalas hopped off, Kolyey decided to go exploring in the temple.
Varanis got cleaned up at the Ulerian temple. At the same time, she was interrogated about Xenofos—whether he had political clout or acumen. Varanis’ answer was kind of roundabout. The Ulerians also suggested that Xenofos might need some help from time to time, since he had had a vision that was exciting but might cause some stir.
Maalira and Xenofos met Kolyey at Geo’s. Xenofos checked how Varanis was doing at the Ulerian temple and continued to the Library so that he could record his vision.
Varanis rendezvoused with Maalira and Kolyey. As there was no news about Berra yet, Varanis mentioned that she wanted to visit the local cemetery, as one of the descendants of Sartar was buried there and she’d like to pay her respects. The others agreed to go with her.
The treatment Xenofos received while making his record was quite extraordinary, but he did not pay special attention to it.
While Xenofos was making his record, he received a messenger saying that his cousin had gone wandering in a graveyard. He paused his work and went to check in on Varanis.
There was a ghost at the cemetery. He did not appear to be a scion of Sartar but something like a deceased Praxian shaman. His name was Agjaan, and he was loud and angry. Maalira managed to calm him down a little, although there was still some pointing and shouting from time to time.
He demanded that they find his killer, because Kolyey had released the killer into nothingness. Agjaan did a LOT of yelling. They worked out that it was likely to have been the undead walktapus, with its spirit abruptly removed from the dead body.
The shaman managed to call on the spirit of Dorasar to enjoy grave offerings. Dorasar was not happy with how Varanis had kept the place up.
Dorasar spoke with some jolly pleasantries and then revealed the news that Kallyr Starbrow was dead. Varanis did not take that well. Things were not improved by Dorasar and Agjaan getting into an argument about showing respect to each other. Varanis walked out of the cemetery and went to the Air Temple to talk with Maalira’s friend, Goravan. She blurted out that Kallyr was dead, and he told the only two guards nearby to go wait in his chambers. He then invited the others to someone else’s private chambers to discuss the matter in a less public place. It seemed that he already knew and had asked Orlanth about it. He said that Kallyr had died in the presence of the powers of Death and the Beast.
Varanis asked to stay at the Temple and was given an altar. She was in shock. She stayed all night to pray.
Xenofos returned to the library to finish his notes and then started going through some of the existing sets of notes. He noted the passing of the star in his private diary, noting he did not know if it had fallen from the sky or finally ascended.
Berra explained things about the vampires, but also told them that Harrek the Berserk had killed Kallyr and the Wolf Pirates had taken control of Boldhome. There was some other information about Eril and the Light Priest keeping something secured. Tennebris was missing. And… I dunno. I was in mourning.
Left at the temple, Varanis went into full (and somewhat bonkers) mourning. Out by the spiral, she called Lightning into herself, blasting herself in the chest with a bolt.13 points of damage
The party went to Geo’s. Xenofos, after ensuring that Maalira was safe, went to the Ulerian Temple.
Kolyey went to guard Varanis and was told she was not allowed to stay inside, but could be on guard outside the Temple, together with a Vingan standing at the door. After a nap at the door to Varanis’ empty room, Berra woke up to greet Maalira, who was coming to sleep beside her. Berra suggested they go check on Varanis, and Maalira reckoned that was a good idea. They decided that Maalira would likely be able to get into the temple as a White Lady, and Berra could go as her bodyguard.
At the Air Temple, they found their way in. Maalira called out to check on Varanis, which made Berra wince a bit, and Varanis shouted that she still wanted to be alone. Berra laid out her sleeping hide for Maalira, and they lay down outside that door.
Varanis saw that Berra was broken too and hugged her. She asked if Berra’s exile was over, and Berra said no, sadly. Varanis said they would stay in Prax together. Berra suggested the Straw Weavers, as their business in Prax was over. Everyone gathered their things and set off to intersect the clan, who were likely to be travelling east from the Good Place soon.2The session ended with open RPG time, with travel to the likely Dark and Storm season pastures of the Straw Weavers.
