Events
Gorak had been busy doing something when an Impala messenger came to report that there was an undead walktapus and some foreign heroes had killed it. Gorak figured he should probably confirm that they had done it right. The messenger gave him a bronze dagger.
The pyre had been burning well. There had been plenty of Impala clan members supervising too. Berra and Varanis noticed a hawk sunning itself on the rock, arms wide in the last of the evening sun. Berra and the hawk had a staring contest, then Berra rode up to it. There was some huffing between the hawk and Varanis, and the hawk flew off as the sun set.
We then made our way to Tourney Altar. Xenofos read the building correctly, understanding that there had been several building phases, and many separate episodes of great damage. There were fewer repair phases than there should have been. Varanis went to make an offering in the space set aside for lay members. Berra went to ask for the protection of the temple as a Wyter Priest. She was introduced to High Sword Gorak. She asked for a safe place for the sword and it was granted. Gorak turned out to be twice as tall as an Impala rider ought to have been.
Varanis decided to do her early, early watch shift.
Gorak was woken by an initiate before dawn on Windsday, to be told that the sun hadn’t risen yet. He leapt out of bed and ordered the hawk to get up, but it wailed about being too old. Orlanth wouldn’t even challenge him.
Gorak went to find an Orlanthi and found Varanis. She offered to try greeting and saluting Yelm and he blasted her arm off with sunspear.1How many times can one person lose an arm anyway??? Berra went off to look to see if everything was dark, returning only when a lot of decisions were made.
The bird was impressively dim and was demanding offerings and apologies, while refusing to rise up out of its chimney. Maalira healed Varanis, but the Vingan was enraged and not a lot of use. Squawk suggested that Xenofos could figure it out and Gorak said it would likely be a Celestial Court HeroQuest sort of thing. Xenofos began composing a song about the hawk and its lack of intelligence. It was not bad.
Kolyey woke up to find everyone gone. The Impalas said Berra and the others were likely with the High Sword and that the sun hadn’t come up yet. Kolyey decided to go hunting for sparkly rocks. Gorak spotted Kolyey and went to greet her.
Once they agreed that a HeroQuest might do the trick, Gorak set things into motion. Berra offered to be Humakt, but also said that she might not be a good choice for it. There was some discussion about what might happen if there were two Humakts. Berra seemed uncertain but Gorak figured it’d be fine.
Kolyey offered her Yelmic crystal as a sacrifice.
Varanis/Vinga/Orlanth just began to stroll up the hill toward the Spike. Xenofos/LM closed his eyes and followed. Maalira/CA had difficulties, so Varanis went to collect her and help her up.
Gorak/Kargan Tor dealt with one challenger and then saw the party approaching. He greeted Lhankor Mhy and Chalana Arroy. They said they had some companions who needed to talk to Yelm.
They greeted Yelm and Kolyey offered him snackies. Varanis speechified and offered a gold ring. Yelm gave everyone a wheel. Kolyey gave Yelm a sparkly stone. Apologies were exchanged and Yelm gave Varanis a “gold bracer”/copper bangle with a light matrix. Kolyey/Humakt asked for training in Fireblade. Everyone was content.
Yelm offered them the use of his personal stairs.2The chimney Varanis and Chalana Arroy strolled down the spiral stairs. Xenofos jumped, so did Kolyey, who fell and broke her leg. Chalana Arroy patched her up.
Up on the rooftop, young Humakt/Berra challenged Kargan Tor again, this time with greatswords. She lost again.
Over the following week, they mostly rested, except for Kolyey who received training in Fireblade, coupled with lectures on Truth and Honour. Varanis joined Gorak for discussions of Honour. Berra may have sulked over her swords.

“Can’t we just blast his feathery arse?” – Varanis
“Is he the sun around here?” – Berra
“Well, not now.” – Gorak
