1629, Fire Season, Stasis Week
It’ll be around Sartar’s Day, maybe the day before. A messenger will give Varanis a message tube sealed with a blob of white wax. Inside the tube is a letter written in Esrolian on papyrus.
The letter says:
Dearest cousin,
I hear you are busy choosing a king for Whitewall. I pray that Vinga will guide you and wish you the best of luck. I also hear that you almost permanently lost a limb.1Possibly in reference to Challenging People, but could also have been Gate Pass – really, how does she keep managing to lose limbs??? Please be more careful! I am not in any shape to heal in battle right now. I’m in good shape, but I feel like a beached giant fish. I’m ready for this stage to be over. I write to you from Wilmskirk. I’m planning to stay here until after the birth. Jaldis is here, but planning to go home as soon as possible. If you want to avoid her, you should leave Whitewall soon. Your prisoner is well. He is under the White Lady’s protection and hidden away besides. Would you please get him out of here, perhaps to Boldhome, as soon as your business permits?
Your loving and worried cousin,
Mellia
Varanis: Out of curiosity, what does the letter say if I fumbled my Read/Write roll???
Mellia’s suggested fumbled version:
Dearest cousin,
I heard that you are king of Whitewall. I think you can do better, but congratulations. I also heard that you lost a limb. I am coming out to regrow it. I am in Wilmskirk right now. I was planning to stay there until the birth. Jaldis is still here. If you want to avoid her, just stay away. Your prisoner is under treatment and kept away from others. Would you get him out of here to somewhere else?
Your worried cousin,
Mellia
GM version:
Heheh. You lost a lamb – presumably slang for someone or something precious. Mellia is going home soon and will take your prisoner with her. And something about Jaldis.
