Berra was summoned from her bed at the hospital, where she was now only lightly feverish. Tennebris was giving judgement on Varaneva; Eril put Berra up to do the talking on behalf of Humakt, if it was needed, and she managed not to disgrace herself. She did helpfully point out to Tennebris that if he was sentencing Varaneva to serve in the army, he had to arrange upkeep for her. Tennebris said that the Blue Tree could do it.

After a feast in which the Luminous Stallion King tried to impress Kallyr and managed mostly to get fobbed off, the group went back out to the army, this time taking food with them. Their orders were to go to see Argrath up North. Varanis put them under Berra’s command, and they set off. After a couple of days of practice they were fit to march through Boldhome, and she continued to drill them on the road.

“Berra, we need to move out.” – Varanis
“RIGHT, YOU LOT! MOVING OUT IN A QUARTER OF AN HOUR!” – Berra

“NOW, IF ANY BASTARD DROPS HIS SWORD OR HIS SPEAR, I WILL CUT IT INTO PIECES AND MAKE SURE HE EATS IT!” – Berra
“WE WILL BE WALKING PAST THEM IN GOOD FUCKING ORDER!” – Berra
“Berra is obviously very stressed already. But seems to be sort of enjoying it.” – Berra

“I don’t have any money to bargain with anyway.” – Varanis
“Yes you do.” – Berra

“Berra’s then going to walk around, explaining more quietly, and without shouting, how things should be done.” – Berra
“Preferably pointing out problems to the leaders, and letting them deal with it.” – Berra
“They’ve got authority, they should get to use it.” – Berra
