True Sword

1629, Earth Season, Stasis Week, mid to late on

Context

Kolyey is being attacked by Humakti, for some reason she cannot understand. Session 8, Geo’s common room after Varanis went to her room. Session Prax 6.8.

Events

While it was raining, Kolyey polished her armor and sword. When the rain stopped, she put her armor on and left Geo’s. She returned after two hours or so, looking confused and glum. She orders mulled wine and sips it.

They charge her a fair price. Presumably they are doing it to lull her into trusting them.

Probably. She drinks in silence.

The day drags on, but for some reason, nobody wants to pick a fight with a morose Humakti.

Kolyey silently thanks Humakt for that. She misses the fellowship she used to have.

That day is the day that she is not-surprise-attacked by someone with a broadsword. Who refuses to answer questions.

Some days just suck.

Some days just suck. Kolyey is not upset enough to go pick a fight. The thought does cross her mind.

Xenofos looks after Varanis thoughtfully and then turns towards Kolyey.

“I do think you do well to ask opinion of your cult elders in that matter. And I am not going to inquire what made you ask that question.” He says quietly.

“You saw a sword. And it remained a sword. It was not recast as an axe or sickle. I think it means that – breaking or mending – you are meant to remain true to your Humakti calling.”

“That is soothing. Thank you, Xenofos. I will say that Humakti are supposed to keep strict truth and fellowship with each other.”

Xenofos seems to be saying something, but shrugs. “There are idels and there is the way things run. And truth may sometimes be just not-lying… But if you feel too tense, you could do worse than spending some time in house of Uleria.”

“It is a house of Life and I am sworn to Death,” Kolyey points out. “I may go do that anyway.”

“A communal meal, a bath… What ever is in line with your geasa. Berra has been known to visit their house too, and I have no reason to suspect her taking the Death rune anything but seriously.”

Kolyey nods. “I am getting worried. The cult elders are nowhere to be seen, even at worship. Berra has been gone a long time.”

“Patience.” He may have twitched a bit when Kolyey spoke of Berra. “They have their reasons and if they think you need to know they will explain. Berra will return. She always does. And if she should not return because she was killed fighting she would have lived as free and Humakti.”

“Patience, phooey. I want to go kill something. I think hunting for undead is a great idea.”

Xenofos shakes his head, gathers his helmet and sworbelt from the table and walks towards private rooms.

Kolyey lets him go.
