Down from her Temple walked Berra Humakti
Into the darkness to go to her duty
Not in the halls of the dead and the living
Berra walked proud as a scout before battle
Seeking to find and to damage by fury
Berra called on the main strengths of her mentor1Either tall Eril, indicating leaning on pride and skill, or Lord D’Val, meaning the same but with feathers.
Seeking a path she saw Teelo before her
Saw how the Lunars had treated a girl-child
Anger grew in her as never she knew it
Berra determined to break all their planning
Took Teelo Norri to visit the death-house
Ty Kora Tek was the woman she called on
Such was her righteous and justified anger
Berra broke out of the coils of the Lunars
Tore at their plans until magic obeyed her
Spat on the plans of the Witch of the Empire
What Really Happened
Berra went to the Temple of Humakt to try to get down into the underworld, where she could perhaps spy on and damage Jar-eel’s plans, or try to fight Onjur and inconvenience him by dying. However, on the way she met a dead child, who had been the doorkeeper at the Temple. The obviously honourable thing to do was to travel with her, and help her. Berra finally lost her temper completely, at the notion that the Lunars would use a child’s death to their advantage like that. She set off to make the girl into Voria, who could be resurrected in a story with Humakt in. Her anger was sufficient to let her escape the planned Heroquest and range into other stories.2Despite being aware it was pointless, the player rolled Movement to augment that POW roll, because the feel of it mattered.
Unfortunately, Jar-eel was able to step in, but while she was dealing with Berra the sound of her harp stopped, and she was no longer able to control other things so well, or to be Lhankor Mhy in the quest with the Lightbringers and ensure everything went well for them.
With Jar-eel as Ty Kora Tek, Berra tried as the wolf Humakt to snatch the child Voria away, but Jar-eel crippled her and then took her to show Yelm’s version of events during the Lightbringer’s Quest. She asked Berra a lot of questions about rebelling, and Berra continued to argue, but also found that she recognised the rebellion inside her – it was not for glory or fear, or even for anger. It was just part of her.
Jar-eel then took her and showed her the Red Goddess Quest, and Berra had a revelation when she looked at Nysalor, which sent her into a spin. She then woke.
